Fall Chore Checklist
By Acme Homes 10-31-2023
Fall is an ideal time for homeowners to tackle essential tasks to prepare their homes for the winter months. Especially for Acme Homes homeowners, since here in Washington State we experience all that Winter has to offer. But by taking care of these chores now you can help ensure that your home remains comfortable, efficient, and well-maintained throughout the colder season. So, without further ado, here are the Fall chores every homeowner should get done before the coldest months hit.
Clean Gutters and Downspouts
Remove leaves, debris, and any obstructions from your gutters and downspouts to ensure proper drainage. This prevents ice dams and water damage during winter.
Inspect and Repair Roof
Check your roof for damaged or missing shingles. Address any issues promptly to prevent leaks and maintain insulation.
Seal Gaps and Cracks
Inspect doors, windows, and the exterior of your home for gaps and cracks. Use caulk and weatherstripping to seal these openings, which will help improve energy efficiency and keep cold air out.
Clean and Store Outdoor Furniture
Clean and properly store outdoor furniture, cushions, and grills. Cover or store them in a dry place to prevent damage from snow and ice.
Service Heating System
Schedule a professional HVAC technician to service your heating system. This ensures it operates efficiently and reduces the risk of breakdowns or fires during winter.
Change Furnace Filters
Replace or clean furnace filters to maintain good indoor air quality and improve heating efficiency.
Inspect and Clean Chimney and Fireplace
If you have a fireplace, have the chimney cleaned and inspected by a professional to ensure it's safe for use during the winter.
Insulate Pipes
Insulate exposed water pipes, especially in unheated areas like basements, garages, and crawl spaces. This will help prevent freezing.
Clean Dryer Vents
Remove lint and debris from your dryer vents to prevent fire hazards and improve dryer efficiency.
These fall chores are essential for maintaining your home's safety, comfort, and efficiency during the winter months. A little proactive effort in the fall can go a long way in preventing costly and inconvenient issues as the weather gets colder.
