Easy Fixes for Common Household Problems

By Acme Homes 3-19-2020

As you make memories over the years, things in your home may develop little scars or may not perform as well as they did when you first moved in. Those dings and dents in the baseboards. Maybe that ever dripping faucet. These issues do not really require immediate attention, but that slow drip may just end up driving you crazy sooner rather than later. Do not let that be the case with you! Allow your friends at Acme Homes to share some simple solutions to some common household ailments that may help you stay sane.

Battered Baseboards

Your house is not a museum. You may have active kids or enjoy moving furniture around to give your space a fresh look. Nothing wrong with that! But daily life may have left its mark on your baseboards. Not to worry, though. Just take a little wood putty and fill the nicks and dents, sand it smooth, touch up with paint and voila! Good as new.

Slow Draining Sinks

A sink drain that struggles to drain can be a real source of frustration. Due in no small part to the fact that gunk and old toothpaste does not get washed away and is there waiting for you the next time you go to use the sink. You can fix this easily without using harsh chemicals by using baking soda and white vinegar instead. Take the grated cover off the drain and then dump half of a cup of baking soda down. Follow that up with a half a cup of white vinegar to chase it down. The mixture will bubble. Do not worry, it is just doing its thing. Give it a few minutes and then flush with water.

Creaking Floorboards

If you are not the owner of an old timey western saloon with an affinity for dramatic entrances, odds are you do not enjoy having creaky floorboards. Did you know that if you dust baby powder over your floorboards it will solve this problem? Well, it is true. Floorboards creak when they rub together. Baby powder will stop that from happening when it settles into the seams.
