Fall Landscaping Mistakes to Avoid
By Acme Homes 10-30-2020
Whether you look forward to landscaping chores or dread them, they are a necessary evil. And Fall is the ideal time to clean up your yard for Winter and prep it for Spring at the same time. At Acme Homes, we want to help you make the most of your time at home, and one way to do that is to avoid making more work for yourself by making mistakes. That is why today, we are going to be sharing with you a few landscaping mistakes you should avoid this Autumn.
Not Thinking About Spring
Taking time to prepare your Springtime flowers now will certainly pay off in the long run. By planting cold hardy flower bulbs now, you will be rewarded with beautiful bursts of color when the weather begins to warm. When you finally see those pops of color peek through frosted grasses, you know it is time to look forward to longer, warmer days.
Neglecting Lawn Aeration
If you never take the time to aerate your lawn, the soil underneath is bound to become compacted and impossible to work with. If you, like many others, choose to aerate in the Springtime, you can leave room for weeds to run amok. Doing this chore in the Fall instead will leave you with all the benefits of aeration without the risk of weeds taking over in the off season.
Not Prepping Tools for Storage
The temptation to store tools as-is is tempting. But taking a little time to give your hard-working gardening tools a little love will ensure that they work their best and last a long time as well. Before storing tools for the winter, give them a good cleaning. Remove dirt, grass cuttings, and other debris using steel wool or wire brush. You can also take this time to give bladed tools a new edge using a file.
Neglecting Fallen Leaves
Believe it or not, raking leaves is not just so that your neighbors do not give you the side-eye. Removing fallen leaves is essential to the health of your lawn. This is because when leaves can sit forever on top of grasses, it restricts needed airflow. In addition, letting leaves remain on your lawn can encourage certain fungal infections, such as snow mold. Which can leave you with unsightly bald spots come Spring. So, for the lushest lawn, do not neglect to rake and remove fallen debris.
And there you have it. If you make sure to tend to these lawn care duties, you are sure to be rewarded with beautiful landscaping. If you want to see examples of beautiful landscaping and community settings, look at our available homes and the areas we build in for inspiration.
