Best Ways to Remove Snow from Your Driveway

By Acme Homes 2-18-2021

February has brought along some intense winter weather for much of the country. And regardless of if snow and ice are things you are familiar with or not, the bottom line is that snow and ice can be inconvenient and potentially hazardous. That is why we wanted to share all the different ways you can remove snow and ice from your driveways along with the pros and cons of each.

Shoveling

Probably the first method that came to your mind is shoveling. Many people recognize that shoveling is a tried-and-true method of snow removal. It is a straightforward process, but it is important to make sure that you have both the time to do it as well as the physical capability. Afterall, shoveling is responsible for more than 11,000 emergency room visits each year. So, make sure you use proper form when completing this task to prevent back pain.

Salt

The use of salt is another popular snow and ice melting tactic. Many people use it in conjunction with shoveling by throwing some over their driveway after removing the bulk of the snow. Some people shy away from using salts, however, since some can cause harm to family pets and the surrounding environment.

Snow Blowing

Some homeowners have found a snow blower to be a worthy investment, especially so if snow and ice are a regular part of the winters where you live. A snow blower can greatly reduce the amount of time you need to spend outside in the cold, and it can also save your back from injury. Be mindful though, that snow blowers can cost a pretty penny up front and do require a power source of either electricity or fuel. So do keep in mind those expenses when considering this option.

Heated Driveways

For the most reliable solution to snow and ice, consider installing a heated driveway system. This, of course, is the costliest of options we have mentioned, but it is certainly something that will add value to your home. And if you consider the fact that you will not need to purchase salts or hire snow removal services, this is an investment that will eventually save you money.
